DANGEROUSLY SELF-EDUCATED with AI
With DeepSeek going 86x cheaper and the AI giants burning billions fighting for your attention, Carlos calls out the people teaching AI self-education without ever applying it themselves — shares real receipts (1.2M downloads, 20 years of Fortune 50 results) as proof he practices what he teaches — and breaks down the four upgraded moves he ran on himself this week, each one built with a deadline so it can't just sit on a shelf.
With Grok, GPT, Gemini, Claude, and now DeepSeek (86x cheaper this week) fighting a trillion-dollar war for your attention, Carlos flips the lens back on you: the AI battle that actually matters is the one between knowing something and applying it.
Carlos calls out a pattern he's seen all year — people teaching AI self-education frameworks who've never run their own advice on themselves — and gives you three signs to spot them. He also shares where he's at right now: 1.2 million downloads on the show (1.1M+ verified on Podbean, receipt linked below, and nearly 100K more since migrating hosts on August 1st), and what it actually took to get there — years of nothing, then the bamboo effect.
Then he breaks down the four upgraded moves he ran on himself this week, each with an accountability layer most “AI experts” leave out: build a curriculum with a 48-hour deadline, run a daily brief with one action attached, take the mirror test to a real cross-examination, and stress-test your decisions against a board of mentors instead of just studying them.
Full upgraded prompts included below. If you've ever bought a course and never finished it, this episode is for you.
4 UPGRADED AI SELF-EDUCATION PROMPTS — COPY & PASTE
Carlos's own applied system, run on himself this week. Every prompt below carries an accountability layer most people skip. Rule underneath all four: don't ask AI — let it ask you.
1. Build Your Curriculum — With A Deadline
“Interview me about the problem that's actually costing me time, money, or opportunity right now — not what I'm curious about, what's costing me. Then do a deep research pass and build me a resource list for that problem alone: the resource, the format, the link, and why it fits my exact situation. Skip anything popular that isn't relevant to me. Then set a 48-hour deadline on your top recommendation, and ask me next time whether I actually applied it.”
2. Build Your Daily Brief — With One Action Attached
“Build me a daily brief on [my space — AI, business, finance]. Pull from the sharpest podcasts, X accounts, newsletters, and news sources in that world. Every morning, hand me a 10-minute read with zero fluff and zero repeats. End every brief with exactly one action I can take that day, and follow up with me the next morning on whether I did it.”
3. The Mirror Test — Taken To Cross-Examination
“I'm going to explain [topic] back to you in my own words. Grade me — where was I vague, wrong, or unclear? Then don't stop there. Cross-examine me like a lawyer would until I can't fake understanding anymore. If I can't defend it under pressure, tell me plainly that I don't actually know it yet.”
4. Build Your Board Of Mentors — Then Stress-Test Your Decisions
“Study the real, publicly available teachings, frameworks, and direct quotes of [a person I choose] — nothing invented, only verified material. Build me a study guide of their core mental models. Then, when I bring you a real decision I'm facing, run it against everything you've learned from them and tell me exactly what they'd challenge me on.”

Right now, while you're binge-watching another course you'll never finish, Grok, GPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek are at war for a trillion-dollar prize. And not one of them cares if you win yours.
This week, the biggest AI companies on Earth went to war. A new model dropped that matches the leader on price and beats it on speed. One crossed a billion users. One posted its first-ever profit. One is about to go public. And DeepSeek just made its top model up to eighty-six times cheaper than the priciest frontier model in the game.
Billions of dollars. Trillions in market cap. The smartest engineers alive on the planet, working around the clock, racing each other for a prize most of us will never touch. And none of it will change your life. Not one bit. Say that with me. None of it will change your life. Not unless you actually use it.
Because here's the brutal truth nobody at any of those companies, and nobody selling you a course about them, is ever going to tell you: most people don't have a learning problem. They have an action problem. You buy the courses. You binge the podcasts. You fill the shelf, physical or digital, doesn't matter. You save the reels. You screenshot the slides. You highlight the book. And somehow, nothing in your life actually changes.
And here's what really gets me fired up. Half the people online teaching you how to master AI for learning have never once run their own advice on themselves. They'll hand you a beautiful framework, a slick slide, a perfect prompt, and they've never once shown you the receipts. They talk like they've lived it. They've barely tried it.
Most people talk. We walk the talk. I'm proud to tell you, as I'm recording this, we've crossed one point two million downloads on this show. My previous host, Podbean, did over one point one million on its own, check the show notes, I've got the receipt linked, because I don't want you to just take my word for it. And the new host we migrated to on August first? We've already done almost a hundred thousand downloads. In a couple weeks.
It's the same story with the revenue number you've heard me mention. I've helped generate over a billion dollars for Fortune 50 companies across twenty years in this game, and today, that number's climbed well past a billion. It's not me telling you that. It's out there. Third parties have talked about it. Not me.
But here's what nobody will tell you: it takes time. It took years to get to a few hundred thousand downloads on this show. And then, in the last twelve months, we exploded into several hundred thousand more. It's the bamboo effect. For a long time, bamboo doesn't grow at all. Nothing happens above the ground. And then, all at once, it shoots up faster than almost anything else on Earth.
Hard work works. That's literally what I wrote back in 2018, in Work Like An Immigrant. And now, every single episode, I'm teaching you the skills and the mindset to do the opposite, to stop working like an immigrant grinding alone, and start letting AI work alongside you. Don't tell AI what to do. Have AI ask you. Have AI challenge you.
I watched my fourteen-year-old daughter give her graduation speech recently, and she quoted me. She said: like my dad says, if you do what is easy, life will be hard, but if you do what is hard, life will be easy. I was so proud. It's the same with AI. Whatever system you choose to work with, have it challenge you. Have it ask you questions. Have it challenge your own thinking.
Learn how to build your own Jarvis. Yes. Like Iron Man. For real. Jarvis is the CEO. You tell it to manage a thousand agents for you. You can build a hundred-thousand, a million, or a ten-million-dollar business by yourself now. Never underestimate what you can do in the next six months.
It's all about proximity. Who are you listening to? I've spent millions of dollars over the last twenty years joining masterminds, going to events, buying courses, you name it. Some were great. Some were expensive lessons. Keep showing up. Here on this podcast, and on my social media, where we post daily. I promise you this: if you don't quit, you win.
If you've followed me for a while, you know the story. A seven-year-old boy who sold bread on the streets of Brazil, thirty-seven years ago, against all odds, who said one day he'd leave the hood and inspire CEOs, celebrities, athletes, and everyday people who lost their hunger. You are not alone. You have greatness within you. Grab my book. Do the exercises. And keep coming back, daily on social, every week right here on the podcast.

Now let's get into it.
I want to take you back to the streets of Brazil. Seven years old, selling sweet bread. No school taught me how to read a customer. No book explained rejection. I learned everything just-in-time, because the only lessons I had time for were the ones I could use in the next five minutes, on the next customer, in the next sale.
Fast forward. I land in America. No English. No connections. I'm knocking doors for Comcast. My manager hands me a script and tells me, knock, pitch, move on, it's a numbers game. I tried it his way. It didn't work. So I went back to what I knew from that street corner. I asked one real question. I tried it that same hour. I kept what worked and I threw out what didn't. My conversion rate tripled in weeks. My manager couldn't explain it. I could. That's just-in-time learning. And it's the entire secret.
Now fast forward again, twenty years later. I've sat across from executives, Fortune 100 leaders, people running rooms most of us will never even get invited into, and I have watched them nod along to the exact same advice, in the exact same meetings, for years, and change absolutely nothing about how they operate. Because knowing is comfortable. Owning is dangerous.
Here's what I've noticed this year, and I want you to really hear this: I've watched dozens of so-called AI experts post the exact same advice on repeat. Build a curriculum. Get a daily brief. Grade yourself. Good bones. Nothing wrong with the idea itself. But almost every single one of them stops at the slide. They show you the prompt. They never show you what happened after they ran it. They never show you the awkward part, the part where the AI told them something they didn't want to hear, the part where they had to actually change.
So I didn't just post about it. I ran it. On myself. This week. And I upgraded it, because a prompt without a deadline is just a nicer way to procrastinate.
Let me give you three signs you're listening to someone who has never applied their own advice. Write these down. One, they only talk in frameworks, never in outcomes. Ask them what happened when they ran it and watch them change the subject. Two, their examples are always hypothetical. Imagine if you did this. Never, here's what happened when I did this. Three, their content never ages. It's the same five slides, recycled every ninety days, with a new hook on top. If they were actually applying it, it would be evolving. It's not evolving. It's frozen.
If that's who's been teaching you, it's not your fault you haven't changed. You were handed a map with no roads on it.
Here's the part that should stop you cold: this is the first time in history technology has shown us how to make it better. Every tool before this, the printing press, the search engine, the smartphone, handed you more information and left you to figure out what to do with it. This one can turn around and ask you the question first.
Think about your brain for a second. Your working memory, the part of your brain doing the thinking right now, can only hold a handful of things at once before something falls off the bench. That's not a flaw. That's just how you're built. For your whole life, you were handed more information than your bench could ever hold, and told to figure out what mattered. No wonder nothing stuck. AI flips that. It doesn't hand you more. It asks you what you actually need, and it clears the bench for you.
Here are my four moves, and unlike most of what you'll see on this topic, every single one of them has a deadline built in. The rule underneath all four: don't ask AI. Let it ask you.
Move one: build your curriculum, with a deadline. Have AI interview you about the problem that's actually costing you money or time right now. Not your curiosity, your problem. Have it build you a resource list for that problem alone, ranked by relevance, not popularity. Then set a forty-eight hour deadline on the top pick. If you haven't applied it in forty-eight hours, it doesn't count as learning. It's just another tab.
Move two: build your daily brief, with one action attached. Have AI curate your best sources into a ten-minute morning brief. No noise, no repeats. But make it earn its place: every brief ends with one action you can take that same day, and you report back the next morning on whether you did it.
Move three: the mirror test, taken to cross-examination. Explain what you learned back to AI and have it grade you. Most people stop there. Go further, have it cross-examine you like a lawyer would until you can't fake it anymore. If you can't defend it under pressure, you don't own it. You just borrowed it.
Move four: build your board of mentors, then stress-test your decisions against it. Have AI study someone's real, public, verified teachings, nothing invented, and build you a study guide of their frameworks. Then bring it your actual decisions, the ones on your desk right now, and make it challenge you the way they would. That's not information hoarding. That's a weapon with a trigger.
Now here's where I want to challenge you. Not lecture you. Challenge you. There are three types of people listening to this right now. The Collector. They've got the most beautiful notes app on the planet. Tags, folders, highlights, color-coded. And it's a graveyard. Nothing in there has ever touched their real life. The Reactor. They consume something, feel a rush of motivation for forty-eight hours, and then it fades, because motivation was never the plan, it was just a feeling. And then there's the Applier. The Applier doesn't consume more than they can use. They ask one question. They apply it same day. And then they ask the next one.
Ask yourself right now, out loud if you have to: in the last thirty days, what did I consume that I have not applied? That list is longer than you want to admit. And it's not because you're lazy. It's because you were taught to learn for someday, by people who are still waiting for their own someday. AI just deleted someday. Everything can be just-in-time now, if you're willing to ask for it that way, and willing to actually run it. Does this make sense to you?
So let's go back to that war I opened with. Grok, GPT, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, they are going to keep fighting for the throne. Billions of dollars, every single day, just to be the one you open first. You don't need to know who wins. You need to know how to use whichever one is in your pocket tonight, and you need to actually run it, not just repost it. Because the gap between knowing something and actually owning it, it's smaller than you think. It's one interview prompt. One mirror test. One morning brief with a deadline attached.
You will die with information you never applied. Don't let that be your headline. Stop collecting. Start owning.
You know the drill, the days that break us are truly the days that make us.
