Harvard gave 758 consultants AI. Some got 19 points WORSE.
Harvard Business School and BCG gave half of them GPT-4.
On the right tasks, they finished 12% more work, 25% faster.
On a task just outside what AI does well, the ones who trusted it blindly were 19 percentage points less likely to get it right.
The AI made average people great. And it made lazy people wrong. Same tool. Opposite outcome. The difference was the human deciding when to trust it.
