I'm not proud of this. Early in my career I cared more about the close than the client.
The deals I pushed through with pressure came back. Cancellations. Buyer's remorse.
The deals where I slowed down, told the truth, even told people when my product wasn't right for them? Those people bought again. And they sent me their friends.
Manipulation gets you the sale. The truth gets you the next 10.
Over 20 years, the math isn't even close.
