One word gets 93% of people to say yes. Even when the reason makes no sense.
1978. Psychologist Ellen Langer sends someone to cut the line at a copy machine.
No reason: 60% let them cut.
"Because I'm in a rush": 94%.
"Because I have to make copies": 93%.
The reason didn't matter. The word did. Your brain hears "because" and stops checking.
Next time someone gives you a reason, ask: would I still say yes without the "because"? Who's used this on you? 👇
