You Were Programmed to Stay Broke

You're not broke because you're lazy. You're loyal to a money script someone handed you as a kid. Carlos shows what the research says about habits, money scripts and scarcity, then gives you a 66-day protocol to rewrite the script for good.

You're not broke because you're lazy. You're loyal to a script. In the finale of the "Who's Running Your Life?" trilogy, Carlos Siqueira (Carlos Inspire) goes after the most powerful manipulator in your life: the voice in your head that sounds exactly like you.

Starting from his own script, written on the streets of Brazil selling bread at 7, Carlos walks through what the research actually supports. That includes Wendy Wood's finding that about 43% of daily behavior is habitual, Brad Klontz's four money scripts, and the 2013 study in Science showing that financial scarcity measurably impaired farmers' reasoning. Then he lays out the 66-day rewrite protocol, built on reappraisal, if-then planning (Gollwitzer & Sheeran's meta-analysis of 94 studies), and University College London's habit-formation research.

In this episode:

  • Why your money habits run on autopilot
  • The four money scripts: avoidance, worship, status and vigilance
  • How scarcity taxes your mind, and the loop that follows
  • The three-sentence exercise that reveals your script
  • The 66-day rewrite: name it, write the new line, install an if-then, and never miss two
  • Why the real payoff is the script your kids inherit
